Retailers and Suppliers Commit to Support Electric Vehicle Deployment

Seventy companies -- including Gap, Price Chopper, Starbucks, Ikea, Frito-Lay, Ciff Bar, Seventh Generation and Ben & Jerry’s -- that have pledged to facilitate the deployment of electric vehicles in the northeastern United States, according to the Transportation and Climate Initiative (TCI).
The commitments come as 10 states and the District of Columbia develop the Northeast Electric Vehicle Network, a TCI project launched in late 2011 to enables travelers to drive plug-in cars and trucks from northern New England to Washington D.C. and all states in between.
Frito-Lay currently has 47 electric trucks in the northeast and plans to add 30 more in the region this year, according to TCI. In total, Frito-Lay will boast more than 280 electric vehicles in its national fleet by year’s end.
