Ikea officially plugged in the solar energy system installed at its store in Orlando, Fla., that features a 120,900-square-foot photovoltaic (PV) array.
The system consists of a 967-kW system, built with 4,115 panels. The Ikea Orlando’s program will produce approximately 1,421,500 kWh of clean electricity annually.
This installation is Ikea’s 18th completed solar energy project in the United States, with 21 more locations underway. Once all the installations are completed, 89 percent of the retailer’s stores in the U.S. will be solar powered, generating an estimated 38 mega watts of power.
Ikea owns and operates each of its solar PV energy systems atop its buildings as opposed to a solar lease or power purchase agreements.
Ikea contracted with REC Solar Inc., for the Orlando installation.
