New Big Y Market Store Unveils Energy Efficiency Measures

Slated to open today, Big Y World Class Market in Franklin, Mass., has installed solar panels, two electric vehicle charging stations and implemented various other energy efficiency measures.
The store has 902 solar panels on its rooftop, which will yield about 15 percent of the store’s anticipated power usage. Green Power Technology also installed two electric vehicle charging stations in the parking lot.
The grocer also implemented an array of energy-efficient technologies, which will reduce store electrical consumption by more than 800,000 kWh, according to media reports.
Based in Springfield, Mass., Big Y is family owned and operated with 66 stores in Connecticut and Massachusetts.
