In partnership with seafood processor Foley Fish of Boston, Roche Bros., has launched a seafood traceability program focused on local and sustainable seafood.

Through a new Foley Fish program, Roche Bros. customers can scan QR codes for selected species, which will describe exactly how that fish was caught, including a photo of the fish itself, the fishing vessel and fishing gear used and the location where the fish was caught.

"We have always been committed to offering responsibly harvested seafood," said the chain’s Seafood Director Arthur Ackles. "We are now taking steps to better communicate that commitment to our customers.”

Called Sea Trace, the programs offers additional information in-store, including a sustainability video and a consumer brochure that shows how a particular species was sustainably caught and naturally processed.

The management programs used by Foley for each species is listed by Roche Bros., so customers can access more detail.

Foley Fish has been the exclusive supplier of seafood to privately owned Roche Bros., for more than 20 years. Roche Bros. operates 18 stores in Massachusetts
